Gully erosion is the process by which gullies are formed. Hillsides are more prone to gullying when they are cleared of vegetation.

The sheet erosion usually occurs when the water flows suddenly and washes off the thin layer of top soil completely.
On the other hand, gully erosion is the process in which gullies are formed.
Since hillsides are cleared of vegetation, it is more prone to gullying. This is the major difference between gulley and sheer erosion.
