Himalayan river:
- These rivers rise in the himalayas and are ther are perennial. Ther are fed by both rainfall and melting of snow and ice.
- These rivers perform intensive erosion and carry huge loads of sand and slit.
- They are navigable.
- These rivers have a very large basin. The main rivers are the Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra.
Peninsular river:
- These rivers originate at much lower altitudes. they are seasonal as they are fed only by rainfall.
- These rivers do little erosion and do not carry much sand and slit.
- They are not fit for navigation.
- They have comparatively smaller basins. The main rivers are Kaveri, Godavari and Mahanadi.
