Answer:

Sedimentary rocks are formed by accumulation and hardening of sediments such as mud, sand, silt and disintegrated rocks over a period of time which are arranged in layers. Therefore we call them stratified rocks.

Sedimentary rock is usually soft and crumbly.

When I drive through one road cut that exposes the sedimentary rocks below a lava layer, I always delight at the curves the pressure of the rising lava has pushed into the layers. Igneous rocks, on the other hand, are formed by cooling and solidifying magma or lava.

Thats the best i can answer,

I hope my answer will be the brainliest answer :)

Igneous rocks are formed by the cooling of magma whereas Sedimentary rocks are formed by deposition and lithification of sediments

Explanation:

Igneous rocks

  • These rocks are formed when magma crystallizes at or below the surface of the earth. For example, Rhyolite, Gabbro, Dunite, and Syenite.
  • When magma crystallizes on the surface, it is called extrusive igneous rock. For example, basalt.
  • When magma crystallizes below the surface, it is called intrusive igneous rock. For example, Granite.
  • The crystals in the rocks grow bigger or smaller depending upon the rate of cooling. Faster cooling of magma creates fine crystals, whereas slow cooling gives rise to the formation of coarser crystals.

Sedimentary rocks-

  • These rocks are formed from the sedimentation and compaction of loose sediments. For example, Sandstone, Siltstone, Shale and Mudstone.
  • Weathering and erosion are two main processes for the formation of this rock.
  • These rocks are good for the preservation of fossils and a large number of geological features are found in these rocks, such as fold, faults.
  • They are of different types such as- Clastic, biogenic, chemical and organic sedimentary rocks.
