INERTIA OF MOTION: if any body is at motion it tends to be in motion unless and until an exterior force is applied on it.
EXAMPLE a ball is in motion for few min and then stops.it is because of the opposing force by air and friction.
INERTIA OF REST
in inertia of rest, you body tends to remain at rest when an external force is applied to make yu move....... and thus you move backwards ...
Examples of Inertia at Rest: ... Only the lower part of his body starts moving whereas the upper part of the body continues to be at rest because of Inertia of Rest. Inertia of Rest is the tendency of an object (or body) to continue its state of rest unless it is acted upon by an external force.
I think it will help you.

Inertia of rest- It is the property contained within the body by virtue of which a body resists any change in its state of rest.
For example- An apple on a tree is in rest. Somebody came and tried to shake that tree. An apple being at rest, wanted to be at rest whereas branches shakes. Due to the inertia of rest of an apple it fell when branches shook suddenly.

Inertia of motion- It is the property contained within the body by virtue of which a body resists any change in its state of uniform motion.
For example- Suppose, u r travelling by bus, initially u nd the bus is in a state of motion. When the bus suddenly stops, lower part of ur body comes at rest but the upper part of ur body tends to maintain ur state of motion due to inertia of motion. Thats why u would feel a forward push in the bus. ....

hope it helps ......
