There's one major distinction betweenan intranet and the Internet: TheInternet is an open, public space, while an intranet is designed to be a private space. An intranet may be accessible from the Internet, but as a rule it's protected by a password and accessible only to employees or other authorized users.

★Difference between internet and intranet★

★Internet★

The term Internet is formed with the words inter (between) and net (network), i.e., between the different networks. Internet is a network of networks which is spread worldwide. This network is open for the general public and they can use it share the information and communicate with one another. Because of its widespread applications and huge amount of information available on it. Internet has become an integral part of our day-to-day life.

★ιnтraneт★

As it is clear from the term Intranet means intra (within) net (network), it is a private network which is within a particular organization. The information available on this network may be the general or confidential, meant to be distributed among the employees of that organization only. So, it is a kind of private Internet not accessible to the general public, but is used by the organization to circulate some information among its employees, to conduct online meetings or trainings, etc.
