difference between ionic and covalent nature in periodic table

ionic bonds are formed due to the tranfer of electrons whereas covalent bonds are formed by mutual sharing of electrons.... an element showing ionic nature will either gain or lose electrons whereas an element showing covalent nature will share electrons...hope it helps
