IONIC compounds are made by gaining or loosing the electrons while COVALENT compounds are made by sharing the electrons.

Ionic compounds are good conductor of electricity but COVALENT Compounds are poor conductor of electricity.

Ionic compounds are soluble in water but covalent compounds are not.

IONIC compounds have high melting or bowling point But COVALENT Compounds has low melting or bowling point.

IONIC -eg Nacl.. COVALENT -- Eg methane

Ionic Compounds:

- They are formed by the exchange of ions

- They are good conductors of electricity

-They have high melting and boiling point

Example: NaCl

Covalent compound:

- They are formed by sharing of electrons

- They are not good conductors of electricity

- They have low melting point and boiling point due to weak forces of attraction

Example: bonds formed by carbon

Methane, Butane,Pentane,etc
