Same as Ionization enthalpy. It is the energy required to eject an electron from an atom. For eg for Na let suppose IE is -500 KJ/mol. So we need to supply 500 KJ of energy to 23 gm(1 mole) of Na to eject 1 mole electrons from it.

Ionization Potential:-

It is the potential required to eject an electron from an atom. For example:- To eject an electron from Na the potential required is -3.6 V. Thus, if we apply a potential of 3.6 volts across a piece of sodium, the electrons starts to eject from it.
