ions are charged elements whereas radicals are charged group of elements
ex Na1+( ion)
OH1-(radical)

When the number of electrons is not same as the number of protons, the net charge becomes zero in an atom which is now called an ion. If there is an unpaired electron in the atom, it is called a radical.
