Answer:

They were two different people both who had a common goal of colonizing India.

Joseph Francois Dupleix, in 1741 wanted to sell the idea to his superiors about a French Empire in India, however couldn't succeed .

Robert Clive on the other hand was a British officer who arrived in India in 1744. He basically ruined the hopes of Dupleix to create a French Colonial India.

In 1761, Pondicherry was captured by the British and this since thenforth the French colonies in India haven't been of any importance.

"Robert Clive was the first governor-general of India; he was also the head of East India Company. Clive played a crucial role in strengthening the rule of Britishers in India. He also made the French to leave India to them.

Joseph François, Marquis Dupleix was a colonial administrator and governor-general of the French territories in India. He wanted to establish French rule in India but failed to do so because of the growing power of Britishers in India. "
