On the basis of the Monsoon, the cropping season in India is divided between two known as the Kharif and Rabi.

Crops that are grown in the rainy seasons are called the Kharif crops. The cropping season for the Kharif crop is from July to October, during the time of south-west monsoon. Rice, sorghum, millet, soyabean, cotton, groundnut are some of the examples of the Kharif crop.

Crops grown in winter are called the Rabi crop. The timing for sowing seeds of the crops is from October to March. Wheat, oats, barley, mustard, linseed are some of the examples of the Rabi crop.
