Migration in the Census of India is of two types – Migration by Birth place and Migration by place of last residence. Hence, there are broadly two types of migrants:
1. Life time migrant :
A person whose place of birth is different from her/his place of enumeration ( i.e place where she/he is counted during census ) is called a life-time migrant.
2. Migrant by last residence :
Is the person whose place of last residence is different from the place of enumeration ( i.e place where the person is counted during census because she/he stayed there during census day, which may not be where she/he usually lives ).
