Global coordinate system - corresponds to the entire body and is used to define nodes in the entire body. Local coordinate system - corresponds to a particular element in the body , and the numbering is done to that particular element neglecting the entire body .

Local coordinates are useful to make algebraic manipulations easier in the derivation of the element matrix and Global coordinate system are useful for specifying the location of each node.

Explanation:

Difference between local and global coordinate system:-

  • Local coordinates, whose origin is located within the element, are useful to make algebraic manipulations easier in the derivation of the element matrix , whereas Global coordinates are useful to specify the location of each node, the orientation of each element, the boundary conditions, and the loads for the entire domain.
  • Local coordinate system conforms to a specific element in the body and is often used to define nodes in the entire body, whereas global coordinate system corresponds to the body and is often used to define nodes in the entire body.
  • A local coordinate system is an object-oriented system of a framework or body's element. It is determined by the movement of the elements, whereas the Global Coordinate System is often used to represent the entire structure or body. It is unaffected by object orientation. If the element moves, it cannot change its position.
