The luminal compartment of ER is present inside the wall whereas extra luminal compartment is present outside of endoplasmic reticulum.
It is present inside the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cell. Its structure is like the membrane of tubules. Another organelle ribosome is attached to it which is responsible for synthesis of protein.
There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum exist, the first one is a smooth endoplasmic reticulum and the other one is rough endoplasmic reticulum. Endoplasmic reticulum is present nearby the nucleus of the cell.
