Those who joined Mughal service were enrolled as mansabdars. The term mansabdars refers to an individual who holds mansab means a position or rank. Rank and salary were determined by a numerical value called zat.

Jagirdars

Mansabdars received their salaries as revenue assignments called jagirs which were some what like iqtas. But unlike muqtis, most mansabdars did not actually reside on or administer their jagirdars.They only had right to the revenue of their assignments was collected for them by their servants.
