well mass and energy are like two sides of a coin. According to Albert. Einstein's Mass Energy equation, mass can be converted to energy which is given by the equation E= M*C^2. Mass is anything that has weight and occupies space whereas Energy is the ability to do work or to put matter into motion.

relation of mass, energy and momentum of a particle is m^2 = E^2/c^4 - p^2/c^2. Mass and energy are proportional only when momentum is zero.
