Difference between mechanical and chemical weathering:

  • The process to break down the rocks into small pieces by the effect of temperature is called Mechanical weathering whereas the process to break down the rocks by chemical reaction is called chemical weathering.
  • The Mechanical weathering just break down the rock while chemical weathering shifts and alter the shape up rock.
  • Mechanical weathering happens near the surface of the earth where as Chemical weathering happens when the rain water reacts with the mineral’s particles of the rock.
