While metals are good conductors of electricity and heat, non-metals are poor conductors. Unlike non-metals, metals are ductile, which means they can be stretched into wires. Another difference between metals and non-metals, is that the former has a metallic luster, while the other does not.

Answer:

Metals

  • Metals are ductile. i.e. metals can be drawn into thin wires by hammering or reshaping.
  • Metals are malleable. i.e. metals can be given different shapes without getting broken.
  • Metals generally produce a sonorous sound. In our school, we've a bell made of metal.
  • Metals are generally solid (except marcury, which is liquid at room temperature).
  • Metals generally conduct electricity. That's why wires in our home are made of copper and silver(metals).
  • Metals react with oxygen to produce metallic oxide. eg. 2Mg+ O2==> 2MgO.
  • The main difference, metals lose electrons, and form electro-positive atoms.

Non-metals

  • Non-metals aren't ductile. These can't be drawn into sheets.
  • Non-metals aren't malleable. If hammered, non-metals break into pieces.
  • Non-metals are gaseous in nature except bromine, which is liquid.
  • Non-metals doesn't conduct electricity.
  • The main difference is, non-metals take electrons and form electro-negative atoms.
