Metals and Non-Metals differ from each other in their chemical properties also. Let us compare the Chemical Properties of Metal with those of Non-Metals.

\textbf{\underline{\underline{Reaction\:With\:Oxygen :}}}

\star Metals React with oxygen to form metallic oxides which are Basic in nature. Potassium,Sodium and Calcium are highly reactive metals. They react with oxygen present in air,even at room temperature.

\star Non-Metals Can React with oxygen to form Non-Metallic Oxides which are Acidic in Nature.

\textbf{\underline{\underline{Reaction\:With\: Water :}}}

\star Metals Differ in their reactivity towards water. Sodium and Potassium metals react very vigorously with water; This reaction gives so much heat that the Hydrogen evolved catches fire.

\star Non-Metals do not react with water. Some Reactive Non-Metals are kept in Water to prevent reaction Ex- Phosphorus.

\textbf{\underline{\underline{Reaction\:With\:Acids :}}}

\star Metals React With Dilute Acids To liberate Hydrogen Gas And Form Metal Salts.Some Metals like Copper and Lead do not react with Dilute Hydrochloric Acid. They React with Sulphuric or Nitric Acid.

\star Non-Metals Generally Do not react with acids. Some Non-Metals like Sulphur and Phosphorus react with Hot conc. Sulphuric Acid,Or Nitric Acid, But they do not liberate Hydrogen Gas.
