metals

  • they are generally solids except mercury which is a liquid in room temperature.
  • they are lustrous in nature.
  • they produce basic oxides when dissolved in water.
  • they are ductile and malleable in nature.

#Non-Metals _

(i) Non-Metals exists in three states; i.e. Solid, Liquid and Gas.

(iii) They don't have a shiny surface.

(iv) They cannot reflect light.

(v) Non-Metals are soft.

(vi) They are Non-malleable and Non-ductile.

(vii) They are bad conductors of Heat and Electricity .

(viii) Non-Metals have low densities.

(ix) They can't produce Metallic Sounds.

(x) Examples are : Oxygen, Carbon, Iodine, Sulphur, Nitrogen etc.
