As we know that metallic nanoparticles find immense applications in the biomedical and pharmaceutical areas as alternative antimicrobial strategy due to the reemergence of infectious diseases and the appearance of antibiotic-resistant strains. Since conventional synthesis by chemical means pose various biological risks and may have adverse effects, synthesis of metallic nanoparticles using plant extracts is gaining momentum as an alternative approach. Such biologically synthesized nanoparticles are nontoxic, ecofriendly (could be safely discharged in the environment), possess distinctive properties, and are synthesized at a very fast rate in a cost-effective manner. Biomolecules from plant extracts act as reducing and capping agents, improving the stability of nanoparticles. Varying properties of the plant extracts impart varying properties to the nanoparticles synthesized from them. Metallic nanoparticles from medicinal plant extracts have been reported to possess biocompatibility and antimicrobial activity.
