The difference between metals and nonmetals are as follows ⤵️

[ METALS ]

1) Are malleable; can be hammered or beaten into thin sheets without breaking.

2) Are ductile; can be drawn into thin wires.

3) Are good conductors of heat and electricity.

4) Have lustre; generally can be highly polished.

5) Are highly tensile; do not break easily.

6) Are solid at room temperature ( except mercury ) and generally have high density ( except sodium and potassium ).

7) All metals, other than sodium and potassium, have high melting points.

8) Are insoluble in solvents like water or in any organic solvent; can be dissolved only in acids.

9) Make a characteristic ringing sound when hit with an object.

10) Form basic oxides.

11) Form chloride with high melting points.

12) Chloride conduct electricity.

[ NON-METALS ]

1) Are not malleable; cannot be hammered or beaten into thin sheets without breaking.

2) Are not ductile; cannot be drawn into thin wires.

3) Are bad conductors of heat and electricity ( except graphite).

4) Have no lustre; cannot be polished.

5) Are not strong; solid breaks easily.

6) Can be in the form of solids, liquids or gases at room temperature; have low densities as compared to metals.

7) All non-metals (except diamond and graphite) have low melting and boiling points.

8) Are soluble in chemical or organic solvents.

9) Do not make any characteristic sound when hit with an object.

10) Form acidic oxides.

11) Form chlorides with low melting points.

12) Chloride do not conduct electricity.
