A meteor is a meteoroid that enters the earth's atmosphere and burns up because of friction. Meteors appear as bright streaks of light in the night sky with a glowing trail. They are commonly known as shooting stars or falling stars.
Whereas meteorites are the meteors that reach the Earth's surface. Some of them burn in the atmosphere and some fall as Rocks and dust.

Meteors are small pieces of rocks while meteoroids are big pieces of rocks.
Meteors burn in the atmosphere due to friction but meteoroids don't burn completely so they fall on earth's surface.
Since meteors burn completely they are not harmful for human life. Meteoroids burn don't burn completely so they harm human life and also caused earthquakes.
Meteors don't help scientists to get about their materials they made up of. Meteorites helps scientists to get about their materials they made up of.
