DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MODERN AND ANCIENT ARCHITECTURE

There are many differences between Modern and Ancient architecture, some apparent to the eye and some that take time trying to truly understand. Modern architecture is the designs which break away from the traditional aesthetics that many ancient buildings possess. The purpose of modern architecture is to create designs that go above and beyond all of the others surrounding it. Long ago, architecture relied a lot around how the land was laid out and in which areas it was built in. Modern architecture on the other hand is completely different with it being based upon the project itself and its ultimate purpose of what its meant to be and who its for. Modern architecture is said to be free of ultimate clutter and unnecessary parts. The goal of the building is determined even before the beginnings of structure. As Distinct Build stated, “Homeowners following a Modern aesthetic believe strongly in the idea of ‘Less is More’!”(Distinct Build 2010).

An example of a famous modern architecture building is the Capital Gate in Abu Dhabi. It is said to be “the most acutely leaning building in the world…bows out 18 degrees from the vertical”(Kamis 2011).

While there is no other building in the world similar to such as the Capital Gate, an ancient building which reminds me much of it is how the Pyramids used to be in Ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptian pyramids are said to be made out of mud, brick and rubble. Completely different than what is used nowadays in modern architecture. While the geometric shapes resemble one in another in a way, they are completely different and made for two seperate reasons. To think back on this now its quite interesting to think about how the modern architecture will change in our future and how they will resemble still in some way that of the ancient times.

Answer:

Difference between modern architecture and ancient architecture

  • The use of energy-efficient materials in traditional construction over modern architecture is one of the main reasons why it is preferred. It is typically regarded as being more resilient than contemporary architecture.
  • Because of this, ancient architecture was primarily ornamental. It was crucial to conceal the structure's skeleton with pilasters, sculptures, paintings, etc.
  • While contemporary architecture is purely brutalist in style. The angular shapes and simple facades of buildings reflect the period in which we live.
  • The phrase "traditional" refers to a wide variety of home construction techniques, each with its distinctive characteristics.
  • They build with conventional supplies including brick, wood, plaster, stucco, and stone.
  • Contrarily, modern architecture forgoes those traditional ornaments in favor of a straightforward, uncluttered layout.
