Molality :

  1. It is the ratio of moles of solute to the mass of solvent in kg .
  2. It is denoted by m .
  3. Its SI unit is mol/kg .
  4. It is not affected by the change in temperature and pressure because only mass is involved .

Molarity :

  1. It is the ratio of moles of solute to the volume of solution in litres .
  2. It is denoted by M .
  3. Its SI unit is mol/ l .
  4. It is affected by temperature and pressure because of the involvement of volume that changes with change in physical conditions .

Molarity and Molality are two ways of finding the concentration of a solution . Since Molality is not affected by changes in physical factors , it is more accurate and precise than molarity .

Some other ways of finding concentration :

  • Mass percentage
  • V/V percentage
  • Normality
  • ppm
  • mole fraction
