Monocots differ from dicots in four distinct structural features: leaves, stems, roots and flowers. But, thedifferences start from the very beginning of the plant's life cycle: the seed. Within the seed lies the plant's embryo. Whereas monocots have one cotyledon (vein), dicots have two.

Monocots or Monocotyledons:-

  • embryo have single cotyledons.
  • Root : they have fibrous root system.
  • Leaves: they have of parallel venation.
  • Flowers: they are multiples of three or equal to three.
  • They are white all cream coloured flowers.
  • Vascular bundles: they are scatter.
  • root and stem: do not possess cambium and so do not increase indiameter.
  • example: coconut , banana, palm trees, grass , onion, etc

Dicots or Diocotyledons:-

  • embryo have two cotyledons.
  • Root: they have tap root system.
  • Leaves: they had to create venation.
  • Flowers: they are in multiples of 4 or 5 or equal to 4 or 5.
  • They are colourful.
  • Vascular bundles: they are arranged in pattern.
  • Root and stem: the process cambium and increase in diameter.
  • Examples: neem , ground nut, mango,etc
