Difference between net sown area and gross sown area

gross cropped area is the total area sown once in a particular year. when the crop is sown on a piece of land for twice, area is counted twice in GCA.

on other hand net sown area is the area sown with crops but is counted only once..

NET SOWN AREA(NSA)

Net sown area is the area actually available for cultivation. It is most important land use pattern in India. NSA is 139.93 million hectares or 45. 74% (in 2012-2013) of the total land area in (2008-09)

GROSS SOWN AREA (GSA)

When the same area is ploughed more than once in an agriculture year, it is known as GROSS SOWN AREA (GSA)

IN 2012-13 area sown more than once was 54.47 million hectares and gross sown area was 194.40 million hectares.

It helps in solving agriculture problems.
