3. Heart removed from body: Continues to beat for some time.

Neurogenic heart :

1. Occurrence: Crustaceans, insects and annelids.

Answer :-

Myogenic Heart :-

■ In "Myogenic Heart", the contractions are initiated by a special node of modified cardiac muscles called "Sino-Atrial node" (SA node).

■ Examples :-

  • Hearts of "Vertebrates"
  • Hearts of "Tunicates"
  • Hearts of "Molluscs"

Neurogenic Heart :-

■ In "Neurogenic Heart", the contractions are initiated by a nerve ganglion, situated in the vicinity of the heart.

■ Examples :-

  • Invertebrates like anthropods (Cockroach)
  • Some annelids (Earthworm)

Extra Information :-

  • Acetylcholine secreted by the nerve ending accelerates the neurogenic heartbeat.

  • In neurogenic heart, the heartbeats originate by nevous stimulation.

  • If the nerve supply of the hearts of vertebrates is cut off or even removed from the body, it continues to beat.
