In Microsoft PowerPoint and OpenOffice Impress, the normal view is the typical view used for creating and viewing presentation slides. This view is also known as Slide View and offers a full size view of a slide, making it easier to create and edit slides.
Where as,
Slide Sorter View in PowerPoint lets you view and sort the presentation slides. This view is also known as the Thumbnail View. To switch to Slide Sorter view, click the "Slide Sorter" button in the "Presentation Views" button group in the Status Bar. We use Slide Sorter View to reorganize, insert, delete and copy the presentation slides.

The difference between the normal view and slide sorter view is as follows:
- Normal Mode is the primary editing view for composing and designing a presentation.
- The left-hand tabs toggle between a slide text outline and slides presented as thumbnails; the right-hand slide pane shows the whole current slide, and the bottom-right notes pane shows the entire current slide.
- The Slide Sorter View displays a thumbnail view of the slides only when sorting them.
- The Slide Sorter View allows a user to easily reorder, add, and delete slides, as well as analyze transitions and animation effects, after generating or editing the presentation.
