The February revolution was more a spontaneous show of discontent with the economic and political situation of Russia. Protests everywhere, especially from starving women in Petrograd forced Nicholas to step down and a temporary government was formed
The October Revolution was a socialist revolution, organized and orchestrated by Lenin and the Bolsheviks. They wanted to seize power and establish a socialist government around the idea of the "dictatorship of the proletariat" and the institution of the Soviets, that had emerged in factories and regiments during the February revolution.
Lenin wanted to lead all socialist, even when he had the opposition of the Mensheviks, who believed in a gradual transformation towards socialism. The October revolution started after the failure of the Kerensky Offensive. Factory workers, sailors and soldiers seized power. They proclaimed a socialist republic, abolished private property of land and started to negotiate peace with Germany.
