One dimensional motion is also known as rectilinear or linear motion. A particle moving along a straight line is said to undergo one dimensional motion. In such a case, only one of the three rectangular coordinates changes with time.

- One dimensional motion is when the object moves along the X axis, that is moves in only a straight line in either directions. Ex. Car moving on a straight road moving front or back. Calculations can easily be made since everything is linear. Ex . Insect crawling in a straight line. An object in two dimensions has both vertical and horizontal displacements meaning that it will move in any path but on a straight plane. This means it can be plotted on the Cartesian plane with two axes itself. This can be visualised as an insect crawling on the floor or a projectile. Three dimensional motion involves objects moving from one point in 3 dimensional space to another point. This cannot be plotted on a sheet of paper. It's measurement requires three axes. Ex An insect flying in air, My random movement not in a straight line etc. Basically what I mean is 1D motion is along straight line, 2D motion is movement on a plane and 3D motion is movement in space.
