difference between outer and inner membrane of mitochondria

The membranes create two compartments. The intermembrane space, as implied, is the regionbetween the inner and outer membranes. It has an important role in the primary function of mitochondria, which is oxidative phosphorylation. The matrix contains the enzymes that are responsible for the citric acid cycle reactions.

outer nembrane of mitochondria is smoothe..but the inner wall of mitochondria has some finger like projections. called cristeae...the cristae are also granulated.and also there are F0 and F1 particles associated with it..
