Overloading means when many appliances draw current from a single socket more than it's capacity. Short circuit means when live wire and neutral wire are joined due to break of their insulation. This may also cause sparking

_In overloading large amount of current will flow through the wire beyond the permissible value of current due to attachment of large applience .but in_ short circuiting live vire directly come In contact with the neutral wire without any resistance or low resistance so large current flow through the conductor .huge current produces large heat & circuit catches fire .
