difference between Palisades and spongy parenchyma

pisades are columular cells
spongy cells are cuboidal cell

Palisade parenchyma

1) Present in dorsiventral leaves.

2) Columnar cells without intercellular spaces, compactly arranged.

3) Contain more amount of chloroplasts.

4) Do not possess respiratory cavity.

5) Present below the upper epidermis.

6) These are there below the upper epidermis in dorsiventral leaf.



Spongy parenchyma:


1) Present in both dorsiventral and isobilateral leaves.

2) Rounded cells with intercellular spaces, loosely arranged.

3) Contain less amount of chloroplast.

4) Possess respiratory cavity and open to outside through stomata.

5) Present below the palisade layer in dorsiventral leaf and between both the epidermis is isobilateral leaf.

These are there towards the lower epidermis in dorsiventral leaf.
