ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE

What is voice?

A) The mood of the verb is called voice. They are two moods. They are : 1. Active Mood and 2. Passive Mood. Active Mood is called Active Voice and Passive Mood is called Passive voice.
2. What is Active Voice?

If the action is done by the subject, it is called Active Voice.

3. What is Passive Voice?

If the action is done to the subject, it is called Passive Voice.

4. What is called an action?

Here, any one tense among twelve is called is called an action. ( from ( simple present ) to (future perfect continuous) ).

5. What is meant by ( done by the subject) and what is meant by ( done to the subject) ?

If the subject is performing the action, it is called (done by the subject).

Eg. 1. Rama eats an apple.
2. Hema is reading a book.
3. They have played cricket.
4. Mahi was drinking coffee.
In the above sentences ( Rama, Hema, They and Mahi ) are the subjects and they are performing the actions ( eats, is reading, have played and was drinking). So, here the actions are called (done by the subjects ) .
B) If the subject is receiving an action, it is called (done to the subject).
Eg. 1. A letter is written by Prakash.
2. A song was sung by Hema.
3. Cricket has been played by Kumar.
4. Mahi is being helped by Rani.
In the above sentences, ( A Letter, A song, Cricket and Mahi ) are the subjects. Here the subjects are not performing the actions. They are receiving the actions ( is written, was sung, has been played and is being helped ) or the actions done to the subjects. So, they are called ( done to the subjects).
