difference between past indefinite and past perfect tense​

The past indefinite refers to something which occurred in the past but may continue into the present. “He started university just last year, and is about to enter second year.” The past perfect is something which happened in the past and is complete in the past. “He finished university in 1975”, is the past perfect.
