Mendeleev's periodic table is, based on relation of properties of elements as dependent on the atomic weight of element. But Modern periodic table considers atomic number as the fundamental property that decides the properties of elements. Modern periodic table does correct defects of the Mendeleev's periodic table.

Mendeleev's perodic table

_______________________________

- Mendeleev , a Russia scientist was the most important contributer to the early development of a perodic table of elements wherein the elements are arranged on the basis of their atomic mass and chemical properties.

1. Mendeleev arranged all the 63 known elements in an increasing order of their atomic mass.

2. The table contains vertical columns called groups and horizontal rows called periods.

3. The elements with similar physical and chemical properties came under same groups.

Modern perodic table

___________________________

-Henry moseley gave a new property of elements, atomic number and this was adopted as the basis of perodic table.

1. valency of elements is determined by the number of valence electrons present in the outermost shell of its atom.

2. Atomic size refer to the radius of an atom.

3. Metallic and non metallic properties.
