Xylem :-

  • Xylem is a conducting tissue found in the vascular plants made up of tracheids , vessels, xylem , parenchyma cells and xylem fibres. The main function of Xylem are:--
  1. Xylem help in transportation of water and nutrients from the soil to stems and leaves.
  2. It provides mechanical strength to the plant .
  3. Xylem is wood , which is valuable raw materials.
  4. The first formed primary xylem elements are called protoxylem.
  5. The second formed primary xylem elements are called metaxylem.
  6. In stem protoxylem lies towards the centre and metaxylem lies towards periphery . This type of arrangement is called endarch.

Phloem:--

It is a living conducting tissue made up of of sieve element , companion cells, parenchyma cells and phloem fiber. The main function of phloem are :--

  1. It conduct soluble organic compound from leaves to different part of plant . This kind of transport process is called trascolation.
  2. Phloem is the innermost layer of bark .
  3. Companion cells of phloem are unique to angiosperm .
  4. Husk of coconut is made up of of sclerenchyma tissue.
  5. The cells which are closely associated and interacting with guards cells are subsidiary cells .
  6. Transpiration :- Transpiration is a process of loss of water from the aerial part of plant in the form of water vapour . Transpiration keeps the plant and their surrounding cools.
