phytochemistry means simply the chemistry of plants whereas the chemotaxonomy deals with the classification of plants based on their chemical constituents. Their are many plant species occur in nature those are difficult to distinguish based on their physiology or floral characteristics, for such cases the classification based on difference in their chemical constituents is preferred called chemotaxonomy
