Step-by-step explanation:

Place value deals with position of the no. along with it. while face value deals with the number only

Place value >= face value

Place value of a particular digit in a number is the digit accompanied by the no. of zeros as many as no. of significant figures after the digit in that whole number while face value returns only the digit whose face value is to be checked

In other words face value checks the digit in a particular position while place value also give its position.

Example

Place value of 7 in 786 is 700

Face value of 7 in 786 is 7
