Rotational Symmetry

With Rotational Symmetry, the image is rotated (around a central point) so that it appears 2 or more times. How many times it appears is called the Order.

Point Symmetry is when every part has a matching part:

the same distance from the central pointbut in the opposite direction.

Point symmetry and rotational symmetry

Explanation:

A figure has point symmetry if it is built around a point, called the center, such that for every point .

on the figure 1 there is another point directly opposite and at the same distance from the center. (Point symmetry can also be described as rotational symmetry of 180º or Order 2.)

A geometric figure has rotational symmetry if the figure appears unchanged after a  rotation about a point by an angle whose measure is strictly between 0º and 360º.
