The anther holds the pollen grains.

The microspores give rise to the male gametophyte, the male gametophyte IS the pollen grain.

The microspore mother cells are diploid (2n) and divide by meiosis to form 4 haploid (n) male gametophytes (pollen grains).

Flowering plants microspore mother cells are formed within the pollen sacs of the anthers by mitosis; the microspores they produce develop into pollen grains.
