The key difference between primary and secondary memory is that primary memory can be directly accessed by the CPU whereas, the CPU can not directly access the secondary memory. The primary memory of the computer is also known as the mainmemory of the computer. However,secondary memory is known as auxiliary memory.

primary memory -it is the main memory from where the operating system resides.eg:RAM,hard disk etc..
secondary memory-it can be external device eg:CD,floppy
secondary memory-it can be external device eg:CD,floppy
