(1)primary meristem:primary meristem are the direct descendants of embryonic cells. They continuously involved in cell division and growth process of plant.

Example:apical meristem of shoot apex and root apex.

(2)secondary meristem:secondary meristematic tissue arises from permanent tissues. Secondary meristem are usually lateral meristem and responsible for increase in thickness of the plant.

Example:vascular cambium and Cork cambium.
