Primary, secondary, and tertiary amines are nitrogens bound to one, two and three carbons, respectively. Since the nitrogen has a lone pair, it is still possible to form another bond to carbon. These are called quaternaryamines, although they bear a positive charge on nitrogen and are not at all basic.

R-NH2 is primary amine,,, R-NH-R is secondary amine, R-N-R2 is suppose tertiary amine. the functional group of primary amine is -NH2 while of secondary amine -NH- and functional group of tertiary amine is only N which tribonded to alkali groups. in primary amine 2 hydrogen atoms are bonded to nitrogen ,while in secondary amine only one hydrogen atom is bonded to nitrogen and in tertiary amine no any hydrogen is bonded to nitrogen.
