Primary and Secondary Transducers. Some transducers contain the mechanical as well as electrical device. The mechanical device converts the physical quantity to be measured into a mechanical signal. Such mechanical device are called as the primary transducers, because they deal with the physical quantity to be measured

"Primary transducer:
- The primary transducer is responsible for taking measurements of the required physical parameter.
- The output of the primary transducer is usually a mechanical signal and so cannot be interpreted by the electrical devices.
- Example: The diaphragm of a microphone measures the intensity of sound waves and produces corresponding mechanical vibrations.
Secondary transducer:
- Found in sequence with primary transducer, the secondary transducer is responsible for converting the mechanical signal into understandable electrical signal for further processing.
- Example: The mechanical vibrations are converted into corresponding electrical signals by a piezoelectric transmitter in a microphone."
