production as the word itself says to produce i.e to form new things. So in science production is basically formation of new substance of items as a result of some chemical reaction.
While on the other hand decomposition is breaking of existing substance into two or more substance

some of the major differences between production and decomposition are as follows:

Production:

1. It is the process of synthesis of organic compounds/biomass from inorganic matter using sunlight by producers (plants).

2. It traps energy.

3. It builds up biomass from inorganic nutrients.

Decomposition:

1. It is the process of breaking down of a substance/waste biomass into its constituent parts by decomposers (bacteria, fungi).

ADVERTISEMENTS:

2. It releases energy.

3. It releases inorganic nutrients from the biomass.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRODUCTION AND DECOMPOSITION

Production

Decomposition

1.

It is the process of formation of fresh biomass from inorganic matter by the producers (plants) using sunlight.

It is the process by which complex organic material is broken down by the decomposers.

2.

Energy is trapped in this process.

Energy is released in this process.

3.

It requires sunlight.

It does not require sunlight.

4.

It is an anabolic process.

It is a catabolic process.
