Eukaryotic cells contain membrane-bound organelles, including a nucleus. Eukaryotes can be single-celled or multi-celled, such as you, me, plants, fungi, and insects. Bacteria are an example of prokaryotes. Prokaryotic cells do not contain a nucleus or any other membrane-bound organelle

The nucleus of a bacterial cell is not bounded by a nuclear membrane. In other words ,it is not well-organised as in case of multicellular organisms. Such cells are called prokaryotic cells. (pro : primitive, karyon : nucleus)
The organisms like bacteria and blue- green algae with such cells are called prokaryotes.
The cells in plants (like onion peel) and animals (like human cheek cells) have a well - organised nucleus with a nuclear membrane. These are called eukaryotic cells. ( EU: true, karyon: nucleus). Organisms having such cellular organisation are called eukaryotes.
