Public policy is a process used to address public problems that range from education, transportation, taxes, food systems, national defense - I'm sure you can think of many other problems. It explains how the government makes decisions, and why the implementation of policies are effective or not.

I think of public policy as an umbrella that includes many other types of policies such as food safety policy, health policy, domestic policy, etc. Anderson (2006) recognized that “the nature and scope of public problems are diffuse and “invisible.”

Many problems overlap and are interconnected. As a result, public policy decisions tend to favor one group of stakeholders more than others. Lines are blurred and sometimes a win-win outcome is a rare occurrence.
