The pyrolysis process degrades waste thermally (heated) in the absence of oxygen. Gasification is a process that materials are Heated exposed to some oxygen, but not enough to allow combustion (fire) to occur.

Similar to the process of incineration both gasification and pyrolosis refers to the plasma technologies that are actually thermal process which makes use of the high amount of temperatures in order to break the waste down.
All these methods can be referred to as the Advanced thermal technology or even the Alternative Conversion technology.
All these methods tend to rely on the carbon based waste which includes paper and other kind of petroleum products such as plastic.
